We create an opinion about someone we meet within a few seconds of our first interaction. Let’s take a walk down the memory lane and try to recall how many times, you, sitting in a cafeteria, coffee shop, park and basically anywhere in the world formed an opinion about someone you just saw? Umpteen times, isn’t it?
It’s our basic human instinct to seek for approval, whether it’s from our own selves, friends, co-workers, or from the divine. Human beings love approval, the sense of another person looking upto us simply elated our senses ; or in simple words, fills us with happiness. Nowadays we even seek approval on social media, even from people we don’t know. Although it negatively impacts us, but that’s a story for another day! Charm is something which escalates our persona and throws us into the limelight. And who wouldn’t love that?
First and foremost, what you should definitely keep in mind is this thumb rule- “Listen more, talk less”. Yes, people want to be heard. They want you to be genuinely interested in what they have to say. So instead of just jaberring around, give the other person the spotlight. And guess what, it reflects back at you. After saying that, don’t think be the silent one in the conversation. That would spoil the whole purpose as the other person might perceive you are not interested. Just be genuinely interested and keep the conversation moving.
There is a really interesting story I had read somewhere. There was an extremely charming young man invited to a party. The host of the party saw him moving around, interacting with all kinds of people and nodding and smiling. An old lady came up to the host and said, he is such a gentleman, rare to find these days. Confused, the host just remembered that the man had barely spoken throughout the entire conversation, but yet, he had been declared as the Prince of charm, without anyone knowing his social standing, neither he boasting about it.
You got it right? That’s the secret of charm.
The second thing to remember is to be polite and kind. Not to any person in particular, but to everyone in general. You can’t be charming if you behave differently around people. Yes, we have our rough times, but remember to be kind and gentle.
Charm comes from being Classy!
Hope you had a good read.
